Stapler Treatment for piles

What is Stapler Treatment?

This treatment for piles is also called Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy or Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy.

This procedure involves removal of the abnormally enlarged hemorrhoidal tissue and repositioning of the remaining hemorrhoidal tissue back to its normal position. This is required for severe cases of Hemorrhoid prolapse.

Stapler Treatment for Piles Kochi

There are two different types of this stapler piles treatment:

  • Stapled Transanal Rectal Resection (STARR)
STARR is used to treat Obstructed Defecation Syndrome (ODS), which is caused by structural deformities in the rectum resulting in chronic constipation, using minimal invasive methods.
    Procedure
The procedure is performed through the anus without any external incisions. A surgical stapler is used to remove excess tissue in the rectum reducing the anatomical defects that cause ODS.
    Post-Procedure
    • Patients usually hospitalized for 2-3 days.
    • Minimal pain experienced after procedure
    • Patients can resume normal activity in 1-2 weeks.
  • Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids (PPH)

PPH uses a circular stapler to reduce prolapse and this procedure avoids wounds thus reducing post-operative pain and a speedy recovery. This is recommended for severe cases of Internal Hemorrhoidal Prolapse. It might be suggested for patients with minor degree hemorrhoids, which are non-responsive to conventional treatments.

PPH helps in correcting the symptoms associated with prolapse and also problem like bleeding from the piles are resolved.

Procedure
The unique circular stapler reduces the degree of prolapse by expunging a circumferential strip of mucosa from the proximal anal canal. This pulls the hemorrhoidal cushions back to their normal position. This procedure is normally done with general anaesthesia within an hour. Some cases are done under local anaesthesia.

Post-Procedure

  • Minimal post-operative pain.
  • Patient might be discharged same day.
  • Patient can resume normal activities after a few days.
  • First bowel movement usually happens in a day or two without much discomfort.
  • Staples will be passed through defecation from time to time, which is normal.

There might be a few short-term post-procedure complications like, bleeding and severe pain.
